ARC Review: Taming the Heart by Elliott Rose

Image
Save a horse, ride a cowboy.  I want to start with a thank you to Luna Literary Management and Elliot Rose for letting me be a part of the ARC team! I really wanted to like this book, but it just didn't end up hitting for me. Sage is a badass - she's confident in herself and her sexuality. As an eldest daughter I felt so seen especially with lines like "Who takes care of the eldest daughter? She looks after her own damn self." Beau is a full course meal, from his mustache to his dirty talk, I just wish he had had a bit more of a backbone - he's been married for 10 years and 8 of them have been loveless but he won't end it because he doesn't want to look bad or be like his shitty father because apparently those two things are more important than actually being happy.  I think I would have been able to rate this higher than 3.5 stars if it had been shorter. The smut scenes were so so so good but the middle dragged and the sexiness of "we shouldn't ...

Book Review: The Vancouver Storm Series by Stephanie Archer

Image
I love a series of interconnected standalones about hockey players falling in love, so I had to give this series by Stephanie Archer a shot. I am super thankful for my local library for carrying the series. The following reviews do have spoilers.  This is an ongoing series, and I will say that the authors writing has improved with each one which is always nice to be able to see when you start with an author's debut novel. I like the dynamics between the different players and how they support each other. I like the coach A LOT and I heard that he will be getting a book, so I am super excited for that. My biggest dislike is that each of the girls are involved with the team in some way - Pippa is hired as a personal assistant through the team, Hazel is part of the team's physical therapy team and Darcy gets hired to assist the team with stats. I feel like Stephanie Archer doesn't know how to get the characters to be close to each other if they aren't working for the team. ...

Book Review: Twins for the Rebel Cowboy by Sasha Summers

Image
He's a good man, Annabeth.  A bad boy womanizer cowboy that works on cars for a living - he's essentially who Dean Winchester would have been if he hadn't been raised as a monster hunter. Amazing. 10/10. Annabeth is a widow raising her son while working for her temporary elementary school principal position to become permanent. After Ryder saves her from being hit on by a creep at the bar, they hook up in his truck. This results in a pregnancy. Ryder has known Annabeth since they were in high school, being best friends with her and the man that ended up being her husband - he even always had feelings for her but never felt like he was good enough for her. He's determined to do right by her, being there for her, her son and the babies that she carries. Annabeth has walls up from the cards that life has dealt her and while I understood that, I just wanted her to let him in. I also wanted him to just talk to her, he kept thinking about how he was going to show her that he ...

Book Review: The Other Side of Midnight by Simone St. James

Image
This is the 6th Simone St James book that I have read and while I consider myself a big fan of hers, her books are always hit or miss for me. I am super happy because this one was a hit, my 3rd favorite of the 6 that I have read.       Our main character is Ellie who has psychic abilities but instead of using them to do seances to see dead people like most psychics do, she uses them to find lost objects. When she was younger, her mother did seances that Ellie assisted her with. Ellie was also friends with a young psychic named Gloria. The book begins with Gloria's older brother asking Ellie to investigate the murder of Gloria. Throughout the events of the book, we meet James who makes a living outing psychics as frauds, and we learn what lead to the falling out between Gloria and Ellie which took place prior to the start of the book.  I really liked Ellie, her powers and the struggles that she goes through with them was very interestin...

Book Review: A Bone In His Teeth by Kellen Graves

Image
A huge thank you to Kellen for allowing me to read an E-Arc of this novel, I am incredibly grateful. A Bone in His Teeth is both haunting and beautiful. Alba was a wonderful character to have as the narrator, his struggles with being trans and his disability due to a past injury were handled with so much care. I don’t often find myself rooting for characters to ruin the people that treated them terribly, but I was cheering Alba on the entire time. Eridany was an interesting character as well, his trauma, the way he cared for Alba and his beauty, he’s hard not to like. The banter between Alba and Eridany’s was amazing, they are both rough and not used to others being kind to them and I loved them both trying to figure out the right things to say. It took a moment for any smut to take place but once it did, it was so good. From the first scene on the beach to Alba getting Eribany on his back, it was all amazing.  I have read the first two books in the Rowan Blood series by Kellen Gra...

ARC Review: Millie, Be Mine by Courtney Corlew

Image
A huge thank you to Courtney Corlew for allowing me to read an E-Arc of this novel, I am super grateful. These thoughts are my own. In Millie, Be Mine, our FMC is Millie, a small-town event planner/florist who is the definition of a people pleaser and our MMC is Will, a guitar player who is Millie's brothers' best friend and her former friends with benefits who moved away to the city. When the book starts, Will is back in town to check in on his aging grandpa. This book had all the makings of a good romance - the tropes are some of my favorites from brothers' best friend to found family to second chance romance and the small town is cozy and adorable, but this book just didn't hit the mark.      We have to start with the things that I liked - Courtney Corlew created a lovely cast of characters and a cozy small town. The characters all had depth - Millie being a people pleaser who is running herself a bit thin between event planning and running her flower shop. She a...

Book Review: Hunt Me! (I Crave the Chase) by Fae Quin

Image
Fae Quin’s Spooky Boys series returns with werewolves! A big thank you to Fae for giving me a chance to read an ARC of this novel.  I am a huge fan of werewolf and alpha & omega stories, so I was super excited to see Fae’s take on the shapeshifter side of things after getting a taste for her omegaverse in The Devil Takes novella. We got a little bit of Jeffrey in Bite Me! as he is Blair’s adopted brother, but it was nice to get into his head in Hunt Me! His experience with Lydia was much different from Blair’s while still being a terrible time and he is coping with returning to his hometown and being around the older brother he left behind and the younger brother that was born after he left. Mutt is a big alpha with a heart of gold who is determined to show Jeffery that he is worthy of love. I loved them both as individuals and as a couple. I also loved all of the side characters - new and old. Mutt’s brothers are introduced, and they are all so different but very loveable. It ...

Ranking of Christina Lauren books

Image
Christina Lauren is a writing duo made up of best friends named Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings. They have written over 2 dozen novels - most of the adult romances but there are a few YA novels mixed in there. I personally have read 19 of their novels so I wanted to rank them all and let you know which ones I recommend the most. Have I not read one of your favorites? Let me know in the comments below.  1. Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating - Published in 2018. I LOVED this book. This book had everything that I love in a romance novel. I loved watching their friendship develop, I had a smile that I couldn't get rid of during their double dates and how obvious it was that they were into each other. I liked Hazel being her weird self and the insecurities she had about people accepting her. 2. Love & Other Words - Published in 2018. This book is an emotional roller coaster. I really enjoyed the back and forth between the past and the present. I loved how reading is such...

2025 First Quarter Favorites

We are 25% of the way finished with 2025 and I wanted to share my favorites of the books I have read so far. I hit the pavement running this year and I have already read 47 books. Let me know in the comments what your favorites have been so far this year.  1. Famous Last Words by Gillian McAllister. My first read from this author & my first five star read of the year. I will be reading more from this author. My full thoughts on the book can be found here .  2. Beartown by Fredrik Backman. The writing is so good, poetic and says things in a way that really made me stop and think about life. There were also lines that knocked me on my ass with how much I related to them. The actual plot pissed me off so much, like the blind faith in fucking Kevin. I legit hated it. I know there are good characters but damn, I couldn't see past my anger. I'm not even sure I want to read the second book.    A quote that has stuck with me is "but life as a teenager seems to have...

Reading Recap: March 2025

Image
I surprised myself in March by reading 19 books. Here is the full list and a line or two of how I felt about each one. 1. Famous Last Words by Gillian McAllister. My first 5 star read of the year! My full review on it can be found here .  2. ADHD is Awesome: A Guide to (Mostly) Thriving With ADHD. My first non-fiction read of the year. It was not my favorite; ADHD is a spectrum, and this book explores it exactly how the author Penn has it. 3. The Adventure Zone: Murder on the Rockport Limited! This Graphic Novel series just makes me want to play DnD. This one didn't make me want to continue on in the series until the very end when it included just enough mystery to hook me in. 4. Cowboy Wolf Trouble by Kait Ballenger. This book has two of my favorite things: Cowboys & Werewolves. Unfortunately, this book has so much going on in it and that kept me from enjoying it as much as I wanted to. I wish the main couple had been given a chance to shine just a bit more.  5. Prophecy ...
