ARC Review: Taming the Heart by Elliott Rose

Save a horse, ride a cowboy.

I want to start with a thank you to Luna Literary Management and Elliot Rose for letting me be a part of the ARC team!

I really wanted to like this book, but it just didn't end up hitting for me. Sage is a badass - she's confident in herself and her sexuality. As an eldest daughter I felt so seen especially with lines like "Who takes care of the eldest daughter? She looks after her own damn self." Beau is a full course meal, from his mustache to his dirty talk, I just wish he had had a bit more of a backbone - he's been married for 10 years and 8 of them have been loveless but he won't end it because he doesn't want to look bad or be like his shitty father because apparently those two things are more important than actually being happy.

I think I would have been able to rate this higher than 3.5 stars if it had been shorter. The smut scenes were so so so good but the middle dragged and the sexiness of "we shouldn't be doing this" wore off after a while especially when it became clear that Beau wasn't going to do anything to get out of the marriage, he was just going to ride it out. I hated that Sage just took off without a word and let him find out by going to her empty cabin, it felt very childish. I really hated the one-year time jump, I felt like the buildup between Beau and Sage wasn't enough for me to believe that they would still be pining after each other after an entire year of no contact.
