Sunday Post/Salon #5

Image
The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted by  Caffeinated Reviewer . It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on your blog for the week ahead. Join in weekly, bi-weekly or for a monthly wrap up. The Sunday Salon (hosted by  ReaderBuzz ) is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.  What I Did: I purposely had a quieter week, work has had me feeling drained so outside of that, I wanted to do a whole lot of nothing. Saturday, I went to an indie bookstore in my state where Sloan Spencer was signing and then later in the evening, I had a video game night with a couple of friends. Sunday, I am planning on another quiet day, probably going to get some cleaning done and then I am going to be joining a Coastal Magic Reading Challenge Group Read Vide...

First Line Friday & Friday56: A Witch's Guide To Magical Innkeeping

Image
Welcome to First Line Friday! This is a weekly feature hosted by Carrie at  Reading Is My Superpower . The idea is very simple: you just share the first line (or lines) of the book you are currently reading.  "It was hardly ideal weather for the resurrection of one's great-aunt, but Sera Swan's magical power, while impressive, hadn't the slightest influence over the obnoxiously blue skies." Friday56 is hosted by  HeadFullOfBooks RULES: * Grab a book, any book * Turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader  (If you want to improvise, go ahead!) * Find a snippet, but no spoilers! * Post it  to your blog and add your url to the Linky. If you do not add the specific url for your post, we may miss it!  * Visit other blogs and leave comments about their snippets. Expand the community. Please leave a comment for me, too!    Page 56: "Well, you're going to," Sera shot back. "Why can't she help me? And why are you so sure she'd even want to?" A...

Down The TBR Hole #4

Image
Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by  Lost in a Story , but she has permitted  I’m Into Books  to adopt it since she is no longer blogging. I always see  Confessions of a YA Reader  do this and I have been wanting to give it a shot myself as my Goodreads to-read shelf has 672 books on it. At this point, we are on page 2 of my to-read shelf so we are making some progress even if the number hasn't moved.  It works like this: Go to your goodreads to-read shelf. Order on ascending date added. Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time. Read the synopses of the books Decide: keep it or should it go This weeks books: The Girl Beneath The Sea by Axie Oh Before I Do by Sophie Cousins This Woven Kingdom by Tahereh Mafi * Spellbound by Allie Therin Witcha Gonna Do? by Avery Flynn Keeping: 4 out of 5 so this round wasn't very successful. *indicates books t...

Review: Toxic by Nicole Blanchard

Image
I don't know what Nicole Blanchard put into this book but it's addicting. I highly recommend checking out to the trigger warnings before reading though.  I liked the forbidden aspect of this a lot which is what made it so addicting to me. Tessa is a nurse at a prison and Gracin is an inmate there so absolutely nothing should be developing between them, but the tension was so good. It even gets kicked up a notch with her husband being the warden of the prison they are both at. Another reason that I really liked this book is that last year I read Pen Pal by JT Gessinger which says it is about a woman become pen pals with a dangerous former inmate and I won't give too much information about the plot but that's not what it ends up being about so this book gave me what Pen Pal failed to give me. Tessa's husband is the WORST. I spent the entire first half of the book wanting Tessa or Gracin to get rid of him - I briefly thought about why Tessa would put up with what she d...

Top Ten Tuesday: Series I Need To Finish

Top Ten Tuesday was created by  The Broke and the Bookish  in June of 2010 and was moved to  That Artsy Reader Girl  in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. August 26th: Freebie. For this weeks freebie, I decided to share a list of series that I need to finish. It was a list I was already compiling to share and while I am sharing more than 10 books, it works because the exact number of books I haven't read yet from the series I chose is exactly 10. Have you read any of these series? What kind of list did you create for the freebie? Let me know in the comments! Series 1: The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater Books I Have Read: The Raven Boys & The Dream Thieves Books I Still Need To Read: Blue Lily, Lily Blue & The Raven King Series 2: Shades Of Magic by V.E. Schwab Book I Have Read: A Darker Shade of Magic Books I Still Need To Read: A Gathering Of Shadows & A Conjuring Of L...

Monday Mood Meme: Sequels

Image
Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words . The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). August 25th: Sequels I decided that I was in the mood to share sequels that I liked even more than the first book. Sequels can be tough especially when following up an awesome start to the series but these authors all nailed it (I am including one that is technically an interconnected standalone but I stand by it being a sequel that is better than the first book)

Monday was my weekly trip to the library - I checked out: Piranesi by Susanna Clarke (hoping to read it in time to join a book club the library is hosting in September), Someone You Can Build A Nest In by John Wiswell & With A Vengence by Riley Sager. Tuesday was a quiet day. Wednesday, I got some blood work done and then after work, I had a late lunch with two of my siblings so that was nice. Thursday, I went to a local ...

First Line Friday & Friday56: Wrong Place Wrong Time

Image
Welcome to First Line Friday! This is a weekly feature hosted by Carrie at  Reading Is My Superpower . The idea is very simple: you just share the first line (or lines) of the book you are currently reading.  "Jen is glad of the clocks going back tonight. A gained hour, extra time, to be spent pretending she isn't waiting for her son." Cover Reveal: Bellini Born

Image
Debts must always be paid. The task was simple: fill in for my best friend as the lifeguard at a private birthday party. But the next thing I know, I’m pulling a little girl out of the pool and resuscitating her. That’s when I learned a key detail my best friend failed to mention. The party was for a pint-sized mafia princess, and I’d unknowingly saved the life of the Don’s four-year-old daughter. Now, in Matteo Bellini’s mind, he owes me a debt. Yet somehow, his repayment gets twisted around to a point where I find myself as the nanny to his two little girls, living under his roof. Captivated by the charming single dad, I begin to believe that his world isn’t as dangerous as everyone keeps trying to warn me. So, of course, the minute I let my guard down, I am proven very, very wrong. Goodreads | Amazon

ARC Review: Jeweler To The Blessed by Jillian Witt

Image
Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted eARC. Started reading for the broody bodyguard, stuck around for the unique magic system. Emberline lives in a world where Blessed individuals use special gems to steal emotions that give them power and she's got a big secret - their magic doesn't work on her, her emotions not something they can steal. When she becomes the jeweler responsible for creating the jewelry the Blessed wear to use their powers, she's assigned a bodyguard - the broody and not quiet trustworthy Hart.  Overall, I really enjoyed this. The magic system isn't something that I have read before, and I liked how mysterious it was and how little Emberline knew about it - I liked learning with her. I liked Hart a lot. He's everything I love about a bodyguard romance (check out my bodyguard rec list here ) but I did end up almost annoyed by the back and forth with him - I know she was in a tough position, but Emberline goes back and forth on whether or not sh...

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Am Excited To Read This Fall

Image
Top Ten Tuesday was created by  The Broke and the Bookish  in June of 2010 and was moved to  That Artsy Reader Girl  in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. August 19th: This weeks topic is supposed to be books with a high page count but I couldn't find 10 books that I either have read or want to read that are super high page count so I decided to go with Books That I Am Excited To Read This Fall. Every fall, I switch to spooky/thriller, witchy and magical reads and every year, I am super excited for it. Have you read any of these? Do you have any spooky/magical/witchy recs for me? Let me know in the comments. 1. Someone You Can Build A Nest In by John Wiswell 2. The Man Made Of Smoke by Alex North 3. You Killed Me First by John Marrs 4. The Witch's Orchard by Archer Sullivan 5. Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross 6. Cat Dragon by Samantha Birch 7. The Ghostwriter by Julie Clark 8. Wrong Place Wr...

It's a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.  What I Did: Outside of my day job, I had a fairly slow week. Monday was for grocery shopping and recycling all my bottles and cans. Tuesday, DnD got cancelled but a couple of us still got together to play a video game - PEAK for anyone that is into that kind of thing and it was nice because Tuesday was my dad's birthday -and it's a tough one because I am almost the same age that he was when I was born so I am catching up to him in age - so I needed the push...

Review: The Alpha King by Victoria Sue

Image
Have you ever wanted to take a fictional character away from their author because the author was putting them through bad thing after bad thing? That was me with Kit in this book. Luca is an alpha in a world where wolf shifters have taken over and the humans are treated poorly. Kit is one of these humans whose life has been made even worse by his mother having him illegally and never registering him. The moment they meet as young adults, it's clear that despite being human, Kit is a pure omega and he is Luca's fated mate. From the moment their bond clicks into place, things are tough for them. The wolves all are biologically able to recognize the power that Luca has but a lot of them are not happy about it due to his ideals - mainly getting others to treat humans better. These same people are also very upset about Kit being human. I think this book would have hit better for me if it had been longer. There is so much that happens in the 250 pages and it makes it hard to connect ...

ARC Review: Chapel At Ender's Ridge

Image
Thank you to Beckett Krane for allowing me to read an ARC of their debut novel. Beckett Krane brought the wild west back to life. Chapel At Enders Ridge is told from the point of view of Decker Belmont, a vampire who loathes being a vampire as he runs a saloon in the small town of Enders Ridge - a town blessed to hide the existence of supernatural creatures. Decker lives a fairly simple life - running his saloon with his wife - a relationship in name only to protect the two of them. Things being to change for the worse around the same time a young preacher arrives.  In the best way possible, this book is a lot. The characters have in depth & interesting back stories. The town of Enders Ridge has a deep backstory that it almost feels like a character of it's own. There is religious trauma and self loathing.  I liked the writing style a lot and as this is a debut, I think Beckett Krane will grow and write an even better book for the sequel. My main issue is that I wouldn't c...
