First Line Friday & Friday56: We Are All Guilty Here

Image
Welcome to First Line Friday! This is a weekly feature hosted by Carrie at  Reading Is My Superpower . The idea is very simple: you just share the first line (or lines) of the book you are currently reading. "Madison Dalrymple leaned her shoulder against the giant oak tree and tried not to panic. Cheyenne was late. Later than late. This wasn't how the plan was supposed to go down." Friday56 is hosted by  HeadFullOfBooks RULES: * Grab a book, any book * Turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader  (If you want to improvise, go ahead!) * Find a snippet, but no spoilers! * Post it  to your blog and add your url to the Linky. If you do not add the specific url for your post, we may miss it!  * Visit other blogs and leave comments about their snippets. Expand the community. Review: Smolder by Tracy Solheim

Image
2025 has become a year of firefighters for me as this is the 3rd romance, I have read this year with a Firefighter MMC. Smolder has Sam as he moves to a new small town to become the captain of their smoke jumpers and as he moves his horse to a barn owned by the father of single mother Laurel.  I liked Sam and Laurel quite a bit. They both had interesting backstories, and I liked the way they clicked together. I really liked that Sam wanted to bring out the best in Laurel - he reminded her that she isn't just a mom and that she can be a good mom while still doing things that bring her joy. The highlight of the book was Laurel's son Tyson and his crew of animals; they all had so much character. Learning more about wildfires and smoke jumpers was really interesting, and you could tell that Tracy did research into the job and respected what the real-life men do.  I wished that the book had been longer or more time had passed within it. After reading it, I did join a talk with the ...

Down The TBR Hole #13

Image
Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by  Lost in a Story , but she has permitted  I’m Into Books  to adopt it since she is no longer blogging. I always see  Confessions of a YA Reader  do this and I have been wanting to give it a shot myself as my Goodreads to-read shelf has  659 books  on it - we are on page 4 of the list now so we are making progress. I like to go with 10 books. It works like this: Go to your goodreads to-read shelf. Order on ascending date added. Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time. Read the synopses of the books Decide: keep it or should it go This weeks books: Dark Burning by K.D. Sunday Post/Salon #13

Image
The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted by  Caffeinated Reviewer . It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on your blog for the week ahead. Join in weekly, bi-weekly or for a monthly wrap up. The Sunday Salon (hosted by  ReaderBuzz ) is a place to link up and share what we have been doing during the week. It's a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there.  What I Did: Outside of my usual 8 to 6, I had a steady week. Monday, I went to a local evening Silent Book Club - not sure if I will be attending this one again. I like that it's in the evening because I am a night person but the coffee lounge that it is held at just wasn't bright enough for me and I felt like I was straining my eyes in the low light. Tuesday, I took my weekly trip to my local library. Wednesday, I went to an escape room and had dinner with...

Mini Reviews: Graphic Novels

Image
I have gotten super into Graphic Novels this year, so I wanted to do mini reviews for some that I have read. Have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments. I Shall Never Fall in Love 4 Stars This graphic novel is lovely. I liked the diversity amongst the characters and the way that the main character was not perfect, she had to learn a lot, and she needed to grow as a person to get her happy ending. I liked that her friends held her accountable. The art style is also a huge plus for this one, it's cozy and cute. Chef's Kiss: Deluxe Edition 4 Stars A very fun read! I enjoyed the art style a lot. I liked the characters as well, it's another where they are growing as people and they are finding themselves. I liked how Ben finished college but struggled to find a job within his field - it was so relateable and realistic. I liked when him and his friends finally stuck up to his parents and I liked how he found his place in the kitchen. Archival Quality 3 Stars My leas...

Review: Roll For Romance by Lenora Woods

Image
My Thoughts: I hate when I end up not enjoying my most anticipated reads. Roll For Romance follows Sadie who I would describe as having a bit of a quarter life crisis - she has lost her big wig corporate job in New York City and is spending the summer in Texas at her best friends house while she figures out her next move. That summer, she decides to join a D&D campaign that her best friend has wanted to do for years. Through this group, she meets Noah - a man who typically spends his time travelling but is in town to spend the summer in town helping his best friend set up a bar. I feel like overall, the author was trying for too much with this book. It includes a lot of POV of Sadie's DnD character, meaning that we spent a good amount of the book inside of the DnD campaign that the characters were playing - in the beginning this was fun but as the book continued, I wanted less of this and more of the real characters. I don't wanna be a total hater on the in-character part...

October 21st: Cozy Reads I decided to go with Cozy reads this week as I couldn't come up with 10 atmospheric reads. These are 10 cozy reads that are on my TBR.
