Rec List: Second Chance Romance

The second chance trope is where two people who were previously lovers or even just friends meet again and have a second chance at a relationship. It is a trope that I enjoy quite a lot, like just the idea of 'right person, wrong time' getting to try again and becoming 'right person, right time' is lovely to me. Mini Reviews: Reading Books That Have Been on My GoodReads "To Read" Shelf the Longest

Image
My GoodReads 'To Read' Shelf is kind of a beast at 633 books so I thought it would be fun to challenge myself to read the books that had been on the list the longest. I was able to get all of the books from my local library and I had fun reading them.  Luck of the Titanic by Stacy Lee Date Published: 05/04/2021 Date Added to Shelf: 11/09/2020 Date Read: 05/20/2025 Rating: 4 Stars Review: Bittersweet is the best way to describe reading this book. It takes place on the titanic and we all know how that ends but it was so hard not to like these characters. They were all so unique and fun. I spent the book so torn between Val and her twin brother - she has ideals left from their father and he has become more hardened by life. Despite knowing that the book would end in a disaster, it still managed to shock me and make me even sadder.  Galatea by Madeline Miller Date Published: 08/13/2013 Date Added to Shelf: 02/09/2021 Date Read: 05/04/2025 Rating: 3 Stars Review: I had a love...

Book Review: A Gentleman's Gentleman by TJ Alexander

Image
Queer Historical Romances are just so good.  A Gentleman's Gentleman follows the eccentric Lord Christopher Eden who lives alone in his manor with his cook and elderly butler as he gets a valet for the first time. He's been given an ultimatum when it comes to his estate - marry before his next birthday or lose everything. Overall, it's an easy read - fast paced with a good amount of drama and funny shenanigans. There was even a carriage chase scene that had me on the edge of my seat.  My biggest issue with this book is that I wish that it had gotten deeper. Christopher did a big crazy thing in his past and once he reveals it, they don't linger on it all.  James Harding honestly doesn't have much of a personality - he's very good at his job and has a secret like Christopher does (I was able to guess it fairly early on as this isn't the first time I have read a novel where the main character is trans, and the love interest is also revealed to be trans). It all...

ARC Review: Levi by Lexi James

Image
I want to start with a thank you to Luna Literary Management and Lexi Rose for letting me be a part of the ARC team! Synopsis : Fake dating my ex-fiancée’s sister? What could possibly go wrong? Quinn Sullivan is the one I’ve always wanted but could only have behind closed doors—and she’s definitely the last person I should be tangled up with now. She’s off limits, untouchable...and also happens to be my coach’s niece. After one steamy night and a very bad idea, we’re suddenly fake dating. For appearances, we say. Totally under control. Except nothing about Quinn has ever been under control. Not when she looks at me like that. Not when she kisses me like we’ve never ended. Not when pretending starts to feel a whole lot like the real thing. This was supposed to be fake. No strings. No feelings. But for once, I'm betting it all. Because this fake relationship? It's the realest thing I've ever felt. AMAZON: LINK HERE GOODREADS: LINK HERE My review: Lexi James brings the heat wi...

Series Review: The STEMinist Novellas by Ali Hazelwood

After loving Deep End earlier this year, I wanted to give Ali Hazelwood another shot and after I found a copy of the STEMinist Novellas at a local used bookstore, I decided to start there. Overall, I thought they were fun but they are definitely not a favorite of mine.  Under One Roof I enjoyed the first 80% of this. It's definitely silly - Mara is instantly rude to Liam despite moving into his home that he has been living in and refusing to budge on letting him buy her out of owning part of it - Like, yes, her beloved Mentor left her half of the house but it's not like the man wanted to kick her out onto the street, he wanted to pay her to let him completely own the home. I liked the way they warmed up to each other, it was funny. The last 20% though - the smut scene. I disliked A LOT. The best word I could use to describe it is awkward. I know that not every real-life sex situation is perfect, but this was painful to read. He physically comes on to her with no warning, no c...

Reading Recap: April 2025

Image
When I read 19 books in March, I had the thought of "This will be the month I read the most this year" but I was wrong because I read 21 books in April. One short of my best month ever of 22 which happened back in 2022. Here is a quick recap of all 19 books, the good, the bad and the okay. 1. Little Slice of Hell by Clio Evans. 3  ★  Not my favorite Clio Evans read but this novella delivers what I now expect from Clio Evans which is good smut. I think the creature cafe series is just not for me in general, it's very instalove which I normally love when fated mates come in to play but this series just doesn't build on that at all.  2. The Wingman by Stephanie Archer. 3 ★  My most anticipated in this series ended up being my least favorite so far. I do look forward to the next one though. My thoughts on all three books in the series can be found here .  3. The Baker & the Bard by Fern Haught. 3.5 ★  I have been on a graphic novel kick lately and this did ...
