Horror is a genre that I am always wanting to read more which is why I am participating in booksbonesbuffy's Summer of Horror. While I read more horror this summer, I wanted to gather a list of horror that I have read and enjoyed.

ReplyDeleteI haven't read Summer Sons, but Lee Mandelo's book The Woods All Black is absolutely phenomenal. Really cool exploration of historical trans identities (1920s), set in rural appalachia.
ReplyDeleteOther horror books that I think are very much worth a look
- Walking Practice by Dolki Min: read the translator's note at the end BEFORE you start. It gives a lot of insight into the original Korean, and how they tried to replicate those effects with the font and typography in English. Body horror aplenty, and it follows a serial killer alien.
- The Brides of High Hill by Nghi Vo: more Gothic than horror proper, this is a very short horror novella following a historian cleric as they visit a haunted noble compound.
- Asunder by Kerstin Hall: this probably strikes the middle ground of horror and fantasy. I describe it as 'studio ghibli does horror', and the worldbuliding is delightfully weird and disturbing.
