Normally, I am unable to get into audiobooks, I tend to get sidetracked while listening to them and then I zone back in an entire chapter later, but I recently discovered that if it's an audiobook novella - no more than 2.5 hours long, I have no problem listening to it. Amazons Original Stories Meet Cute Novellas are perfect for this. This is part 2 of my reviews of them. Part 1 can be found here.
A Play For Love by Trilina Pucci | 2 Stars
This novella lost me pretty early on when the FMC said she only passed her drama class because she used ChatGPT for it. I am not a fan of AI when used in situations where we should be using our brains or in situations where art/writing is being stolen from artists/writers. Due to this, the MMC did carry the book but even that was not enough to save things once I lost respect for the FMC.
When it came to the 5th book in this The Improbable Meet-Cute: Second Chances, I thought I knew what to expect but Catherine Cowles threw out the script and completely kept me on my toes. We have a woman connecting with her brothers ex who has always been there for her, we have a murder and a betrayal / shocking reveal. I liked Maia and Decker a lot, they have supported each other as friends for so many years with only his brother keeping them from being more. I really enjoyed Maia opening her eyes to what had been in front of her the entire time. Ladies, don't let your ex stop you from finding your soulmate even if it's his brother.
After Death to Valentine's Day, I knew to expect something darker from Valentine's Slay. The plot - a man rescuing a woman after discovering she has been buried alive in his family's cemetery - is not like any that I have read before. I really enjoyed the humor that Navessa Allen's writing spread through the novella. I liked Emma a lot - like just the way she was able to realize that she deserved better and the way that she fought her ex. Noah was a fun MMC, his dark humor had me cracking up and I liked the way he basically worshipped Emma. I did feel like the way things went down near the end felt very abrupt but I guess that can be blamed on it being a novella. I really need to read more of Navessa Allen's work after enjoying this and Lights Out.
