Fantasy With Friends: Cozy Fantasy

Fantasy with Friends is a meme hosted at Pages Unbound that poses questions each Monday about fantasy, either as a genre as a whole or individual works.

This week’s prompt is: What do you think of the current trend for cozy fantasy? Why do you think it is currently so popular? What makes a good cozy fantasy?

My thoughts:

I have to admit that Cozy Fantasy is a subgenre that I haven't read very much of. There are so many that I want to check out but I can never get myself to prioritize them and I couldn't even tell you why. I love the idea of a cozy book where characters are going on quests where you can be certain nothing to bad will happen to them. I think the fact that they are trending and are super popular says a lot about the state of the world. To me, things are not the best, so people are turning to "cozy" reads to escape that.

  1. Ohh, I love me some cosy fantasy! I have read Sangu Mandanna's books, and T.J Klune's The House in the Cerulean Sea is one of my all-time favourites, so happy to see it here. I have Half a Soul and Legends and Lattes on my TBR. I am looking forward to reading them. Happy reading :)

  2. I've come to enjoy most things "cozy." The world can be too awful and cozy is a great way to escape for a while.

  3. I do think that cozy fantasies can sometimes be a nice break! Sometimes I just want a book that isn't going to emotionally scar me, but one that I can just relax with!
