What I Did:
Another chilly week in Michigan and outside of my day job, I did even less than last week. Tuesday, I took myself to the library. Sunday, I plan to get some shopping done and then go to my usual silent book club.
What I Read:
I finally finished Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb (4 Stars) and Out Of The Woods by Hannah Bonam-Young (3 Stars). I started 8 Keys to Healing, Managing and Preventing Burnout by Morgan Johnson, At Whit's End by Bailey Hannah and I am still working on Until The Clock Strikes Midnight by Alechia Dow.
What I Checked Out From The Library:
I have been trying to cook more at home and I find the internet a daunting place to find quality recipes, so I grabbed a cookbook called One Pot Magic. My library does Quarterly Book Boxes where you get a treat, a craft and a mystery book and I was lucky enough to get to sign up for one this quarter and my mystery book is Code Name Helene by Ariel Lawhon which I plan on going into blind, only knowing it's a historical novel.
Books Added To My Collection:So I didn't break my book buying ban but I did get an ARC of Beyond The Court by Stef CR in the mail as a giveaway prize so I am changing the name of this section to Books Added To My Collection.

I like library cookbooks. I usually like about three recipes from a cookbook, so it makes no sense to buy them. But, I agree that the internet is just overwhelming. I prefer the themed and curated recipes in a cookbook. One Pot Magic sounds terrific, especially for winter when a pot on the stove feels like a cozy addition to the house.
ReplyDeleteNot liking many recipes is the reason that i decided to check out a cookbook from the library!
DeleteIt looks like your reading is off to a great start! I get cookbooks from the library A LOT! I find it's a great, easy way to find new recipes to love. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I can't believe I didn't think of getting cookbooks from the library sooner.
DeleteHave you seen Robin Miller's website? She does food articles for the local newspaper, and I've been recommending her recipes to a friend who is learning to cook. She's active on Bluesky as well. Of course, cookbooks are much easier to curl up and read.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard of Robin Miller but I will definitely check her out!
DeleteWhat is a silent book club? What is the point if no one talks? I am so curious.

For me, the point is getting out of the house lol. It's set up so half the time is spent reading and the other half is spent socializing, we always meet up at a local small business so we buy drinks and snacks to support them at the same time.
DeleteHow is that cookbook? We're always looking for more recipes, especially stuff that's quick or at least efficient to make, since my wife and I both have evening hobbies that we need to eat before!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good week.
I just started flipping through it but it seems to have a good variety in it! I am going to be doing a chicken crockpot recipe soon.
DeleteI’m with you on the one pot meals!
ReplyDeleteI often check out cookbooks from the library. I've been researching recipes to try in our Air Fryer using cookbooks from the library!
ReplyDeleteQuarterly Book Boxes are a fun idea. I've honestly never heard of a library doing this before now. I will share it with other librarians.
While I love reading via an ebook, I need a printed recipe. I don't do well using a device when I try to follow a recipe. I hope you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThe Quarterly Book Boxes sound like fun! I wish our library did something like that. I recently read Until The Clock Strikes Midnight and really enjoyed it! I hope you have a good weekend.
