ARC Review: The Mating Trials: The Alpha by Anastasia Daniels

The Mating Trials: The Alpha by Anastasia Daniels | 3 Stars

Thank you to Love Notes PR for an ARC of this novel. The Mating Trials follows wolf shifters that hold annual trials to help themselves find mates. It is Ember's first year eligible to participate and she is not looking forward to it as she believes that finding a mate will mean she has to leave her brother behind. This is Thorn's 10th year participating in the trials. He's been selective over the years as he wants a mate that will last for life, not just a season or two. He has reached a point where his pack is less confident in him due to him not picking a mate.

I really liked the trials. For some reason, I was expecting crazy trials where they would show off to find a mate but the actual trials in the book were very practical for actually finding a mate. I liked Ember, she's been through a lot and she's very protective of her little brother. I liked Thorn, he's very determined to be a good Alpha, and he very badly wants to find a mate that will last. My main gripe with this book is I wish there had been more communication. They connected so well through the trials but never had an actual conversation which resulted in them both getting hurt. I also would have liked to have learned more about Ember's parents.  Another thing to note is that besides Ember, Thorn and her brother, all the other characters are the worst.
