I recently saw a tiktok from @NYCbookhoe where she spent an entire day reading only novellas and I decided I wanted to challenge myself to do the same thing.
I started at 10am on a Sunday and had reading novellas as my focus for the day and I lasted until 7pm. Overall, I really enjoyed this mini readathon. At the end of the day, I found that I had spent way less time on my phone and I didn't have the Sunday Scaries (this is what I like to call the dread that fills me the day before a work week begins) like I normally do. I made it through 3.25 Novellas during the day and below are mini reviews for the 3 that I finished. I can see myself doing this again in the future - maybe in December to push me closer to my goal of 200 books (I am less than 20 away).

The Unsolved Murder of Kevin Walsh by KJ Sweet | 3 Stars
The Unsolved Murder of Kevin Walsh follows Bianca as a case of mistaken identity leads to her being kidnapped by a mysterious man -Orlock is what Bianca later names him- one who grows angry after going through her phone and discovering the terrible way that Bianca's boyfriend Kevin treats her. This leads to a game of cat and mouse as Bianca tries to decide if her boyfriend Kevin and her best friend Rebecca-Lynn are worth saving. I mostly enjoyed this one, it was a little silly in a couple spots and I truly don't think anyone would really act this way if they were in Bianca's shoes but I still had fun reading it. I do own the sequel to this one and I think I am going to save it for the next time I have a novella readathon.
A Game of Hearts: February Indulgence by Tigris Eden | 3 Stars
My least favorite novella of the day. After being dumped by her boyfriend of three years for not being good enough for him, Zoraida finds herself going on her preplanned anniversary trip with her male best friend, Mateo. The FMC in this book is super shallow and thinks she will only be happy if she finds a man that is going to be able to provide for her and while she admits to being shallow, she's super rude to her best friend as he tries to communicate that he wants her. I will add that his communicating was not the best, but she gets stuck on how he didn't want her when they were in high school and insists that he isn't what she wants anymore and then she gets super jealous when faced by two women who do see him as what they want in a partner. Once Zoraida allowed herself to drop her ideas of being taken care of, she was able to see how much she cared about Mateo and how much she wanted to be with him but for it being a novella, I wished they had gotten to the good part sooner.
Rooting for Kiran by Megan Monarch | 3.5 Stars
My favorite novella of the day by far! We have fated mates, a swoony alien MMC and a hyper independent FMC. I liked the way they clicked, and I enjoyed the way that the FMC wasn't immediately sold on them being fated mates because she didn't see herself needing or wanting that in her life. The smut in this was also super enjoyable - his body is literally made to bring pleasure to his fated mate and I loved that for her. I enjoyed this authors writing and will definitely be checking out her next Fated Mates book.
