First Line Friday: The Other Side of Midnight

Welcome to First Line Friday! This is a weekly feature hosted by Carrie at Reading Is My Superpower. The idea is very simple: you just share the first line (or lines) of the book you are currently reading. 

As usual, I am kind of cheating with First Line Friday as I am going through my list of all time favorite first lines.

Synopsis: 

London, 1925. Glamorous medium Gloria Sutter made her fortune helping the bereaved contact loved ones killed during the Great War. Now she's been murdered at one of her own séances, after leaving a message requesting the help of her former friend and sole rival, Ellie Winter.

Ellie doesn't contact the dead—at least, not anymore. She specializes in miraculously finding lost items. Still, she can't refuse the final request of the only other true psychic she has known. Now Ellie must delve into Gloria's secrets and plunge back into the world of hucksters, lowlifes, and fakes. Worse, she cannot shake the attentions of handsome James Hawley, a damaged war veteran who has dedicated himself to debunking psychics.

As Ellie and James uncover the sinister mysteries of Gloria's life and death, Ellie is tormented by nightmarish visions that herald the grisly murders of those in Gloria's circle. And as Ellie’s uneasy partnership with James turns dangerously intimate, an insidious evil force begins to undermine their quest for clues, a force determined to bury the truth, and whoever seeks to expose it...

    Never heard of this one but those first lines and the synopsis have piqued my interest!

My library holds usually end up choosing for me as once I get a book up from the library, I usually want to jump right into it. I have gotten super into applying for and reading ARCs lately so deadlines for the reviews have been choosing for me lately. The time of year is also a big factor in how I choose because once September rolls around, I kick into a gear where I only wanna read horror & mystery and that won't stop until Halloween and by then I am ready for Winter and Christmas themed reads.

Tell Me Something Tuesday: How Do You Read?

That's What I'm Talking About 's Tell Me Something Tuesday   is a weekly discussion post where bloggers discuss a wide range of topics from books and blogging to life in general.  June 3rd: Paper, electronic, audio… How do you read? Has it changed in recent years? This year I sit at 75% of the books I read being physical copies and 25% being electronic which is slightly higher than normal for me - my all time stats have ebooks making up only 18% of my total reading, I think I have been on the rise this year because I have gotten into applying for and reading ARCs. I have tried multiple times to get into audiobooks but I get distracted too easily for them. Last year I got back into going to the library and 35% of the books I have read this year have come from there instead of from my own collection of unread books.

First Line Friday! Meme

 Welcome to First Line Friday! This is a weekly feature hosted by Carrie at Reading Is My Superpower . The idea is very simple: you just share the first line (or lines) of the book you are currently reading.  I love judging books by their first line. When I am book shopping at a physical store, I will read the synopsis and then the first line before deciding if I am going to buy it. I am cheating a little bit on this prompt as this line isn't from my current read but is instead from my favorite read so far this year.
