ARC Review: Moniker by Wrenna King

Rating: 2.5 Stars

My Thoughts:

Thank you to Luna Literary and the author for an ARC of this novel.

This book follows Raven - a financial advisor - as she realizes that her newest client Ryan is her favorite romance book voice actor and the two quickly become obsessed with each other. I thought this book had a lot of potential for a fun dark romance, but it really fell flat. My biggest issue with this book is the way that they kept telling each other that they had no limits and then they would have genuine bad reactions to things done to them because they didn't communicate things that could potentially trigger them. I wouldn't say I know a lot about bdsm but consent and communication are important in my opinion and these two just kept putting each other in bad situations by not admitting to their limits and triggers. The book also kept saying "goth queen" and I hated that so much. Glad that Ryan found his goth queen in Raven but this book just was not for me.

Synopsis:

What’s better than a book boyfriend? The voice actor who narrates him.

Raven Lovelace lives for success – her financial firm at the forefront leaves no room for distractions. Especially not the kind that comes with a voice that could melt steel and awakens desires people didn’t know they had. When everything is going as planned, a new client catches Raven’s attention. He’s everything she isn’t supposed to want – younger, laid back, and sounds exactly like the audiobook narrator she can’t get out of her head.

Ryan Mitchell never expected his online voice content as “Zander Kane” would become his career. One viral romance audiobook later, he’s the hottest in the industry – but he realizes his popularity might not last forever. A search result and a phone call later, he finds himself transfixed on his financial advisor, the one woman who can’t let herself fall apart at the sound of his voice.

What starts as a virtual flirtation spirals into an obsessive passion neither of them expected. Ghosts from Raven’s past lurk in the shadows, threatening to destroy everything she’s built – including her relationship with Ryan. But Ryan isn’t the only one veiled behind a mask, and the truth could cost them everything.
