Book Blogger Hop & Let's Talk Bookish: Giveaways & Ratings

The purpose of THE BOOK BLOGGER HOP is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, and befriend other bloggers. THE BOOK BLOGGER HOP is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.

This Week's Prompt:
When you spot giveaways, do you enter just for fun—even if you’re unsure you’ll read the book—or only when you truly want the title?

I love entering giveaways! I mostly enter them on Instagram and through TheStoryGraph. I have even gotten lucky multiple times in the last year. I used to enter Goodreads giveaways but found that I was never winning so I stopped trying. I know that some people have won giveaways and never received the prize, but I haven't had that happen to me yet. When it's on Instagram, I only enter if I am interested in the prize and on TheStoryGraph, I enter on any book that looks remotely interesting - lots of judging a book by its cover when I am doing that.

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly (Friday) meme originally created by Rukky @Eternity Books and co-hosted by Aria @ Book Nook Bits and Dini @dinipandareads! In this bookish discussion meme, bloggers get to discuss certain topics, share opinions, and spread love by visiting each other’s posts.

This week’s topic is: How do you read star ratings from other bloggers/readers? Do you consider star ratings seen on a book blog, Bookstagram, or BookTok differently than ratings on sites like Goodreads? How much does a star rating affect your decision to purchase/borrow/read a book and does it depend on whom/where the star rating comes from?

I have learned recently that the way I view star ratings is not how everyone/most people view them. To me, 3 Stars is good. 3 Stars is right in the middle and is to me, a good and average book. To others and to sites like Amazon, 3 Stars is bad. Because of this, I don't give much consideration to the star rating that others give - I tend to read their review and the decide if I am interested in the book based on that. I also tend to not pay attention to the average rating on a book since I know that some people give 5 stars to every book that they read.

Comments

  1. I mostly enter giveaways only when I genuinely want to read the book. Over the years on Goodreads and LibraryThing, I’ve won three books.
    Happy Reading!

  2. I only enter if I truly want the book. I don't have the space for books that don't interest me!

    Have a great weekend!
