ARC Review: Spicy or Sweet by Sophie Snow

My rating: 3.5 Stars

Spicy or Sweet doesn't hit the same as the novella that came before it. I think the main issue here was me wanting this book to be like the Naughty or Nice - less than 200 pages and full of spice. Spicy or Sweet is 250 pages and things don't get spicy until around the 50% mark.

I did like Shay a lot, she's almost 50 and has lived her life but she still had moments where she wasn't confident in the things she was doing, and I felt like it made her a well-rounded character. Noelle was not my favorite - she dislikes Shay just because Shay opened a bakery in their small town before she did, she's in 30s but this just had her seeming really immature. Once the two of them get to know each other and begin sleeping together, Sophie Snow delivered on the spicy. The scenes between Noelle and Shay were so hot.

I did like that the age gap of almost 17 years was more of an issue for Shay than it was for Henry in the previous book - the man did not care at all how much older than Rora he was while Shay spent some time stressed about how much older than Noelle that she was.

Synopsis:

Noelle Whitten is living her dream.

Too bad finally owning the bakery she’s always wanted feels more like a nightmare, as the pressure of trying to live up to her family’s legacy reaches a boiling point.

Shay Harland didn’t move to Wintermore to make enemies.

She wanted to be closer to her brother, but small-town life is lonelier than she expected, and the one person she has something in common with, fellow baker Noelle, hates her.

When they’re forced to share a kitchen for a movie project, Noelle’s biggest rival quickly becomes her biggest craving. Shay knows she has no business wanting someone sixteen years younger than her, but the heat between them is impossible to ignore.

One taste is all it takes to light a fire between them. But the deeper they fall, the more they risk burning everything they’ve built to the ground.

Spicy or Sweet is a spicy age gap sapphic romance with a happily ever after. Full content warnings can be found on the author’s website.
